Aikido
What is Aikido
Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba. The name Aikido consists of three Japanese Characters: AI, harmony; KI, internal energy; DO, a way or path. The Founder used old traditions and his personal beliefs to develop Aikido to become a dynamic part of modern society.
What Is Iwama Style Aikido
Aikido of Tupelo, Blue Springs Dojo offers instruction in Aikido(hand to hand), Aikijo(staff) and Aikiken(sword) as taught by the Founder and preserved by the late Morihiro Saito Shihan. Iwama Style Aikido refers to the aikido taught by Morihiro Saito Shihan. The Takemusu Aikido Association Shihan and Main Instructors all trained with Saito Shihan and disseminates his teachings throughout the organization.
Takemusu Aikido
The Founder considered Takemusu Aikido to be the highest form of Aikido. Takemusu contains two Japanese characters: Take = (Bu) = Martial, and Musu = To be born. These two characters combine to refer to spontaneously created technique, resulting in a pure Aikido technique. He felt that one's training went through four major periods of development: Katai or Basic Technique, Jutai or Flexible Technique, Ki no nagare or Flowing Technique, and finally Takemusu Aiki. He considered this final form of Aikido to be attainable by anyone through practice.
